The Healing Story of How Soothin' Infusion Came To Be
A few winters ago, while hobbling around with a broken knee and a perpetual fever, I brewed an herbal healing concoction in my kitchen: a simple caffeine-free medley of African Rooibos (for stress relief), Lemongrass (for anti-oxidants), Lemon balm (for pain reduction), Spearmint (to cool my fever), Raspberry Leaf (for digestive health) & Stevia (for sweetness).
The cold tea was so refreshing, and I felt instantly better. It was no time at all before my fever was gone and the pain of my knee subsided. I knew I was on to something wonderful in this new tea infusion I had created out of a simple need. So, I memorized the recipe and starting serving it to thirsty house guests & visitors.
Everyone loved my new soothing tea...
Needless to say, the demand increased and my homemade batches of what I now called Soothin' Infusion swiftly become a popular request at potlucks and parties. After serving it for several months, I noticed that the blend seemed to have a myriad positive effects on people’s moods, pain levels, digestion, alertness & overall happiness.
I dreamed of sharing my delicious healing blend with hundreds & thousands of tea-lovers, and one fateful day...a meeting with Whole Foods made that dream a reality.

Rooibos: For Calming Stress
The soothing effect that Rooibos seems to have on the central nervous system may make it an effective sleep aid. Used topically, it will help to reduce inflammation and ease the discomfort of skin irritations. It has a smooth, rich, vanilla like taste and is the wonderful base that gives Soothin’ Infusion its red color and deep rich flavor.
Lemongrass: For Inducing Relaxation and Reducing Inflammation
Lemongrass tea has been used as a sedative in folk medicine. Lemongrass has many antioxidant, anti-tumor, antibacterial, and antifungal agents. Lemongrass is an important flavoring in Thai and Vietnamese cooking. Lemongrass leaves are employed by the Cuban population as an anti-hypertensive and anti-inflammatory folk medicine. Packed with anti-oxidants, lemongrass was the perfect compliment to Soothin' Infusion's healing mix.
Lemon Balm: For Soothing Tension and Pain
Lemon Balm was dedicated to the goddess Diana, and used medicinally by the Greeks some 2,000 years ago. In the Middles Ages lemon balm was used to soothe tension, to dress wounds, and as a cure for toothache, skin eruptions, mad dog bites, crooked necks, and sickness during pregnancy. It was even said to prevent baldness. As a medicinal plant, lemon balm has traditionally been employed against bronchial inflammation, earache, fever, flatulence, headaches, high blood pressure, influenza, mood disorders, palpitations, toothache and vomiting. A tea made from Lemon Balm leaves is said to soothe menstrual cramps and helps relieve PMS.
It is thought that the volatile oils in lemon balm contain chemicals that relax muscles, particularly in the bladder, stomach, and uterus, thereby relieving cramps, gas, and nausea. Lemon balm is widely used to treat anxiety and insomnia in Europe. It reduces anxiety and stress and eases sleep disorders. Recently it produced an unexpected result in a research study: it greatly increased the ability to concentrate and perform word and picture tasks.
Spearmint: For Aiding Digestion and Breathing
Spearmint promotes healthy digestion, calm nerves, helps with colds and fevers, sore throats, headaches, earaches, and is cooling and refreshing. It has a mild soothing action on nerves and digestion; helps relax the body and clear the mind and senses; it is also known to soothe urinary inflammation. Spearmint also supports the respiratory and circulatory systems.
Raspberry Leaf: For Refreshing the Body and Increasing Circulation
Raspberry Leaf benefits menstrual complaints and the female reproductive system, as well as the digestive and circulatory systems. It is tonifying and astringent and is helpful with diarrhea. The tannins in the raspberry leaves are what make this tea so refreshing and quenching as they have a flavor similar in taste to black tea.
Sun Tea Method- place teabag in pitcher, sun tea container or quart jar. Cover with 1 quart of filtered water. Place in sun until the tea becomes dark in color. Depending on where you live and how hot it gets, this could take 2 hours or 8 hours. Typically 2-4 hours is all you will need. Serve over ice and enjoy.
Cold Infusion Method- place teabag in pitcher or 1 quart container. Fill with 4 cups (1 quart) of filtered water. Let steep all day or overnite in fridge or outside in cool weather. This method takes longer as there is no heat involved. The flavor is not quite as strong but it will yield a technically “raw” tea since the herbs will not be cooked.
Enjoying Hot– simply pour 1 quart of boiling water over teabag into a teapot, steep for 5-10 minutes and pour into a teacup for a hot cuppa’ tea. It is quite delicious with honey and a spot of cream or milk or by itself. Drinking Soothin’ Infusion hot has helped me to ward off several colds.
Hot Water Method – place teabag in pot and cover with 2 cups of filtered water. Bring to a boil. Turn off heat and let steep for 5-10 minutes, preferably with lid on to contain flavor. Add 2 more cups of cold water. Stir in sweetener if desired, pour over ice and enjoy.
Mixed Drinks – I have never tried this method myself, but have heard from others that it is quite good mixed with hard liquor of your choice and made into a cocktail.
Cooking with Soothin’ Infusion – I have had all kinds of customers write to me and tell me that they cook with my tea. Creative people have used in smoothies, soups and for steaming vegetables. I have tried it in a few dishes and I must say; it is a really delicious flavor addition to some of my favorite recipes!
Caffeinated Brew – Soothin' Infusion is caffeine-free. However, if you are looking for a stronger brew with a little pick me up, simply add a couple of bags of your favorite black tea to your infusion. Brew the black teabags and Soothin’ Infusion together and you will have the most delicious caffeinated iced tea you will ever drink. On the days you want caffeine-free, you can leave out the black tea while brewing. Isn't it fun to have options?
Complimentary flavors: Soothin’ Infusion is also delicious served with lemon, fresh lemon balm and mint leaves. I sometimes add some vanilla extract for an extra flavor boost. There is really no end to the versatility of the original blend of this amazing herbal tea.
The Unsweetened Original blend is delicious on its own, but can be sweetened with honey, stevia drops, maple sugar, xylitol, palm sugar, or your choice of sweetener.
The Sweetened blend is already pre-sweetened with just the right amount of pure Stevia leaf (not powder or extract), and is therefore low glycemic and healthy.
